Medical indication

If you have a medical indication, it means your birth will take place in a hospital under the supervision of a gynaecologist/obstetrician (doctor) because extra care or monitoring is needed due to a higher risk of complications. Sometimes this is already determined during pregnancy. Examples of medical indications include: a multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets etc.), high blood pressure, or abnormal growth of the baby.

More guidance in case of medical indication

A medical indication can also arise during labor, for example if the baby poops in the amniotic fluid. Having a medical indication does not mean you cannot give birth normally. It simply means there is a higher chance of complications, so we recommend closer monitoring of your condition and your baby.

We will also support you after the birth

If your pregnancy and birth are supervised by a gynaecologist/obstetrician, you will need a midwife in your own area after returning home from the hospital. We are available to provide guidance during your postnatal period. Contact us during your pregnancy to arrange appointments after the birth. You may also email us. If you prefer, we can schedule a personal meeting at our practice to get to know eachother.

In the section Postnatal Care, you’ll find information on what to expect from the maternity nurse and from us during your postnatal period.
