After your baby is born, you must officially register the birth of your child with the municipality where the birth took place. Nowadays, this can easily be done online.
The birth must be registered within 3 days after delivery (the day of birth does not count). If the third day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, you may register it on the next working day.
If you’re not married or in a registered partnership, you can also arrange parental authority after the birth.
Within 4 months after birth, your baby must be registered with your health insurance provider. It’s usually best to register your child together with the parent with the most comprehensive policy.
